1. What is beef tallow?
Beef tallow is pure, nutrient-rich fat that’s been gently rendered from beef suet (the fat surrounding the kidneys of grass-fed cows). It’s rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K, and its fatty acid profile is very similar to our skin’s natural oils making it incredibly nourishing and easily absorbed.
2. Where do you source your beef suet?
We source our suet locally from trusted, ethical New Zealand farmers from the Horowhenua and Kapiti regions, who raise grass-fed, pasture-raised cattle. Supporting local suppliers keeps our ingredients fresh, traceable, and sustainable.
3. How many times do you render your tallow?
We use three slow, careful wet renders to gently cleanse the fat, followed by two dry renders to create a clean, neutral base that’s perfect for skincare. This extra care removes impurities, resulting in a smooth, odour-neutral tallow that’s safe and luxurious for the skin.
4. Are your products recyclable?
Yes! Our aluminium tins, glass jars, and labels are chosen with the environment in mind. We use recyclable, reusable packaging and encourage our customers to repurpose containers where possible to reduce waste.
5. How do your products work in symbiosis with skin?
Tallow closely matches the natural lipids found in healthy human skin, which means it helps restore and support your skin barrier without clogging pores. It delivers bioavailable nutrients and locks in moisture, allowing your skin to repair itself naturally.
6. Are your products safe for sensitive skin?
Absolutely. Our formulas are intentionally simple, avoiding synthetic fragrances, preservatives, and endocrine disruptors that often irritate sensitive skin. Many customers find relief from eczema, dryness, and irritation using our products.
7. Do your products have a strong smell?
No, our careful rendering process creates a neutral tallow base. Unscented products have a very light, natural scent that quickly fades, while our scented options use only high-quality essential oils.
8. Are your products safe for babies and children?
Yes. Our balms are gentle enough for the whole family. They’re free from parabens, phthalates, and synthetic chemicals, making them a safe, natural choice for delicate skin - even baby bottoms!
9. How long do your products last?
Because tallow is a stable fat, our products have a naturally long shelf life - generally 6-12 months or more if kept in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
